Our Thanksgiving issue of the Kindness RoundUp is live!
This issue focuses on gratitude, with some practical tips for encouraging it in ourselves and others, as well as suggestions for some meaningful Thanksgiving traditions you may want to try.
Let’s turn “Minnesota Nice” into “Minnesota Kind”.
This year, the second annual Minnesota Acts of Kindness Week runs November 12-16. Minnesota Acts of Kindness Week was established last year by Gov. Mark Dayton at the request of various MN United Way chapters and other community organizations.
Acts of Kindness Week provides a great opportunity to spread kindness and compassion throughout the state. Imagine the power for good if we all unite to demonstrate kindness to one another for a week!
In “Let’s Make Kindness Contagious This Season”, Ann Austin, Executive director of the United Way of Freeborn County, said:
Though [Lady] Gaga challenged each of us to do one act throughout the year, I challenge you to think of one act of kindness each day. It’s amazing how quickly our mindset changes when we begin to think of others.
Some ideas for how to spread kindness. . . include: A note of appreciation, bringing a co-worker out to lunch, gifting extra supplies to local teachers, doing an act of kindness for a neighbor, telling someone how much you appreciate them — or simply holding the door open for others.
If it’s appropriate, we encourage you to capture your acts of kindness and share on social media using the hashtag #LiveUnitedMN.
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy;
O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
~St. Francis of Assisi
